Q. Where do I get a licence?

You are required to fill in a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).
This form must be lodged with the celebrant within 18 months and not less than one calendar month prior to the marriage. (I will do this for you)

The documents required for this are:

• For a person born in Australia
  - a Birth Certificate or Extract
• For a person born overseas
  - a Birth Certificate or Passport issued by
  a goverment of an overseas country
  showing the date and place of birth of the
  person concerned
• If previously married and divorced
  - a Decree Absolute of Divorce
• If previously married and widowed
  - a Death Certificate

 

 

Note:
All photocopied documents must be certified.
You are required to have two witnesses over the age of 18.

 

Q. How long is the ceremony? We want it short.

The ceremony will be of your design and will include all necessary legal requirements. Marriage is a serious undertaking, and you will be making promises to one another for the future. The ceremony can vary in length according to your wishes.
Handfasting, the sharing of wine, 'shattering the glass', or the use of candles can be included.

Q. Do we have to have a giving away?

No, this is not a legal requirement. There are 'support' vows - Asking the guests to continue supporting the couple now they are married.

Q. Where can we get married?

You have a wide choice of venues.

• Depending on the weather - public or private parks or gardens
• Reception centres, hotels or restaurants, golf clubs
• Boats or the beach
• There are also chapels for hire
